Healesville Sanctuary Zoo

Today we had to get up super early because mum and I were going to do ParkRun! I came 23 and did it in 25 minutes, which I thought was very good considering I hadn’t ran in ages. We ran at a place called Lillydale Lake, and we had to run around the lake twice before finishing! At the end we were given free water and sweets, and I stocked up!

When we got back to the house I changed my clothes and had some breakfast as I was starving after all that running. We then all got in the car because we were going to Healesville Sanctuary, which is a huge zoo full of Australian animals! Once there, I learned that the word wominjeka means welcome in the language of the Wurundjeri people, the traditional owners of the land. When we got to the zoo, we went to watch the ‘spirits of the sky’ bird show; that had eagles and talking parrots in it! There was also a brown buzzard called Belinda, with a wingspan of 2 meters! We also saw a bird called an Emu, which was huge, and so were the pelicans there.

My favorite animal was the Tasmanian Devils because I liked their claws and they are also quite cute; I also really liked the Green Tree Snake because it’s harmless and it is super strong for something of it’s size. Other animals there were: Koalas, Echidna, Cassowaries, Emus, Dingoes, Royal Spoonbills, swans, parrots, Headbeater’s Possum, Kangaroos, Platypus, Brolgas, Goannas, woodland birds, Barn Owls, Pelicans, Brush-tailed Rock-wallabies, Arid birds, Kookaburras, fruit bats, Lyre birds, Reptiles (snakes/lizards), mountain pygmy-possums, Tasmanian Devils and Wombats!

I would recommend the zoo because it is child friendly and there are lots of amazing animals there. You can even pay a bit extra to get up close and touch some of the animals!
